Founded in 1978 by Piet Glasbeek, the brand began as a small-scale producer of biodynamic food items and has since grown into a significant international player in the organic food sector.

Today, the brand is under the ultimate ownership of Windmill Organics, a UK-based food company headquartered in London. Windmill Organics, which also owns popular brands like Biona, initially acquired a majority stake in 2012 before taking full 100% control of Machandel in 2022. In the Danish market, the product is distributed and marketed by Haugen-Gruppen, a leading food and beverage importer in the Nordic region.
