Bionade is a pioneering organic soft drink brand produced in Ostheim vor der Rhön, Germany. It was invented by master brewer Dieter Leipold in the late 1980s, who developed a unique fermentation process that converts sugar into gluconic acid rather than alcohol, adhering to German purity standards for beverages.
Originally launched in 1994 by the family-owned Peter Brewery, the brand achieved cult status in the early 2000s for its natural ingredients and lower sugar content compared to traditional sodas. After a period of ownership by the Radeberger Group (a division of Dr. Oetker), the brand was acquired in 2018 by the Hassia Group. Today, it remains a flagship of sustainable German beverage production, with its primary manufacturing site still located in its historical home of Ostheim.
