Rapitalà Nero d'Avola Sicilia DOC red wine

Rapitalà is a prestigious Sicilian winery located in the province of Palermo, between Camporeale and Alcamo. The estate was founded in 1968 by Count Hugues Bernard de la Gatinais, a French naval officer, and his Sicilian wife, Gigi Guarrasi. Together, they rebuilt the estate following the 1968 Belice earthquake, merging traditional Sicilian viticulture with modern French winemaking techniques. This unique blend of 'Sicilian soul and French savoir-faire' defined the brand's identity and helped pioneer the quality revolution of estate-bottled wines on the island.

The wine shown is a Nero d'Avola, the most iconic indigenous red grape of Sicily, produced under the Sicilia DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) designation. The grapes are grown organically on the rolling hills of the estate, benefit from the Mediterranean climate, and are vinified on-site.

Historically, the winery was a family-run enterprise. However, since 1999, Gruppo Italiano Vini (GIV) held a majority stake in the company. In June 2025, GIV completed its acquisition by purchasing the remaining shares from the De la Gatinais family, achieving 100% ownership. Today, Rapitalà remains one of the flagship Sicilian brands within GIV's extensive portfolio of premium Italian wineries.
