Pears Soap is one of the world's most iconic and historic personal care brands, famously known as the world's first mass-market transparent soap. It was invented in 1789 by Andrew Pears in a factory off Oxford Street in London. The brand achieved legendary status in the marketing world during the late 19th century through the pioneering advertising efforts of Thomas J. Barratt, who is often called the 'father of modern advertising'.

Originally produced in Great Britain, the manufacturing of Pears soap changed significantly in the late 20th century. While it remains a globally recognized brand, the majority of its production moved to India to leverage the expertise of local manufacturing hubs. Despite changes in its formula over the years to satisfy modern dermatological standards and supply chain requirements, the soap retains its signature amber color and high-glycerin content, which remains its primary selling point for consumers with sensitive skin.

Today, the brand's ownership reflects the consolidation of the global consumer goods market. After being part of A&F Pears and later Lever Brothers, it is now a core brand within the Unilever portfolio. It is primarily managed and distributed through Unilever's Indian subsidiary, Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), which oversees its global export and regional variations.
