Extra is a well-known brand of sugar-free chewing gum originally launched in 1984 by the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company in the United States. It was the first sugar-free brand offered by the company and has since become one of the most popular gum brands globally. Production occurs in various facilities worldwide to serve different regional markets; for the European market, a significant amount of manufacturing takes place in Poland and France.
In 2008, Mars, Incorporated acquired the Wrigley Company. Today, the brand is managed under the Mars Wrigley segment, which is a global leader in confectionery. Despite its American origins and parent company's headquarters in Virginia, the Extra brand operates extensively across international borders with localized marketing and distribution channels.
