Marabou Vit choklad

Marabou is a legendary Swedish chocolate brand with a history dating back to 1916. It was founded by the Norwegian chocolatier Johan Throne Holst, who had previously achieved immense success with the Freia brand in Norway. Due to trademark restrictions on the name 'Freia' in Sweden at the time, the Swedish branch was named Marabou, after the marabou stork featured in the original company logo.

The brand's main production facility is located in Upplands Väsby, just north of Stockholm, Sweden. This factory has been the heart of Marabou manufacturing since the 1970s, succeeding the original plant in Sundbyberg. In recent years, substantial investments have been made to modernize these facilities, ensuring the continued production of iconic items like the 'Vit choklad' (white chocolate) bars.

Ownership of Marabou transitioned from the founding family to Kraft Foods in 1993. Following a corporate restructuring in 2012, Marabou became a key part of Mondelēz International. As of 2026, Mondelēz remains the ultimate owner, managing the brand through its local subsidiary, Mondelēz Sverige AB.
