Brunch is a popular brand of cream spread known for its versatility as both a bread topping and a cooking ingredient. It was first launched in 1995 by the German company Edelweiss GmbH & Co. KG, based in Kempten, Bavaria. The brand effectively created a new category of yogurt-based spreads in the German market, combining creaminess with a lighter texture than traditional cream cheeses.
While the brand was originally developed under the ownership of the multinational Unilever, it was sold in 2003 to the French dairy specialist Bongrain. Today, the brand is owned by the French group Savencia Fromage & Dairy (formerly Bongrain), which is one of the world's leading producers of specialty cheeses. Despite the French ownership, the product continues to be manufactured primarily in the Allgäu region of Germany, maintaining its deep roots in German dairy tradition.
