BioBio Chia Samen

BioBio Chia Samen is an organic superfood product containing 100% chia seeds (Salvia hispanica). The BioBio brand is a prominent private label in the German grocery sector, specifically associated with the discount retailer Netto Marken-Discount. Originally, the brand was introduced in 2002 by the supermarket chain Plus, which was a pioneer in bringing organic products to the discount market under the guidance of then-Agriculture Minister Renate Künast.

Following EDEKA's acquisition of the Plus supermarket chain in 2009, Netto Marken-Discount (an EDEKA subsidiary) integrated the BioBio brand into its permanent assortment. As of 2026, the brand remains under the ultimate ownership of the EDEKA Group, Germany's largest supermarket corporation. While the product is marketed and distributed by Netto Marken-Discount, the chia seeds themselves are typically sourced from various global regions where the plant is native or widely cultivated, such as Mexico, Bolivia, or Paraguay, though they are packaged and quality-controlled for the German market.
