Facom is an iconic French manufacturer of high-end hand tools, originally founded in 1918 by Louis Mosés as Franco-Américaine de Construction d'Outillage Mécanique. The brand established itself early on by providing specialized tools for the automotive and aerospace sectors, specifically through partnerships with French automakers like Renault and Peugeot. Its history is marked by innovation, such as the introduction of lifetime guarantees in 1952 and the development of the plastic-handled screwdriver in the 1950s.
Today, Facom maintains a significant manufacturing footprint in Europe, with approximately 60% of its tools produced across several plants in France (notably in the Jura and Besançon regions) and Italy. However, as part of a global supply chain, production also takes place in other international locations including Israel, Taiwan, and China, depending on the tool's specific complexity and market segment.
Ownership of the brand shifted from family and public listings to various holding companies like Fimalac in the late 1990s. In 2006, Facom was acquired by the American industrial giant Stanley Works. Following the subsequent merger with Black & Decker in 2010, the brand is now owned by Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. Under this ownership, Facom remains a premium professional brand within the group's global portfolio, recognized for its ergonomics and durability.
