Lyxor Asset Management is a prominent European investment firm founded in 1998 as a subsidiary of the French banking giant Société Générale. Initially established to specialize in structured products and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), it grew into one of Europe's largest ETF providers and a leader in liquid alternative investments. The brand's origin is deeply rooted in the French financial sector, specifically within the innovative ecosystem of Paris-La Défense.
In a major shift in the European asset management landscape, Amundi—the largest asset manager in Europe and a subsidiary of the Crédit Agricole Group—acquired Lyxor from Société Générale in late 2021, with the deal finalizing in early 2022. This acquisition consolidated Lyxor's extensive passive and active management capabilities under the Amundi umbrella, specifically boosting Amundi's market share in the ETF segment. While the European operations were integrated into Amundi, certain US-based divisions (Lyxor Asset Management Inc.) were subsequently acquired by Wilshire in 2023. Today, the Lyxor brand primarily exists as a specialized product line and legal entity within the Amundi and Crédit Agricole group.
