The Merkur 23C, also widely known as the Merkur Classic Long Handle, is a staple in the world of traditional wet shaving. It was originally developed in the 1920s and has since become one of the most recognized double-edge safety razors globally. The product is renowned for its three-piece design, featuring a closed comb head and a longer, knurled handle that provides enhanced grip and control, particularly favored by those with larger hands.

Historically, the Merkur brand was established in 1896 by Emil Hermes in Solingen, Germany, a city world-famous for its high-quality cutlery and steel manufacturing. Today, the brand continues to manufacture its products in Solingen, adhering to strict German engineering standards. In 1996, the brand was acquired by DOVO Solingen. However, in 2021, Ulrich Wiethoff, who had managed the brand's product development for nearly two decades, became the sole shareholder and owner, transitioning the company into its current era as an independent entity under MERKUR Stahlwaren GmbH & Co. KG.
