Cetaphil is a globally recognized skincare brand originally developed in 1947 by a pharmacist in Texas, USA. Its first product was the 'Cetaphil Cleansing Lotion,' which is still a bestseller today as the Gentle Skin Cleanser. The brand has built a reputation for providing dermatologist-recommended solutions specifically designed for sensitive and compromised skin types.
While the brand has American roots, it is currently owned by Galderma, a major Swiss pharmaceutical and dermo-cosmetics company. Galderma was originally a joint venture between Nestlé and L'Oréal but became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nestlé in 2014. In 2019, it was acquired by a consortium of private institutional investors (led by EQT Partners and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority). As of 2024, Galderma is a publicly traded company on the Swiss Stock Exchange (SIX), with L'Oréal maintaining a minority strategic stake of approximately 20%.
Manufacturing for Cetaphil products takes place in several high-standard facilities worldwide to meet global demand. Major production hubs are located in Canada (specifically Baie-D'Urfé, Quebec), Brazil, and France. The specific 'PRO Redness Control' line is frequently manufactured in Canada for the European and North American markets.
