Kneipp is a historic German brand rooted in the naturopathic philosophy of Sebastian Kneipp, a 19th-century priest who pioneered hydrotherapy and herbal medicine. The brand was officially founded in 1891 in Würzburg, Germany, through a partnership between Sebastian Kneipp and the pharmacist Leonhard Oberhäußer. For over a century, the company remained independent or family-owned, gaining a global reputation for high-quality bath, body care, and nutritional supplement products.

In 2001, the PAUL HARTMANN AG began acquiring shares in Kneipp, eventually taking full 100% ownership in 2008. As of 2026, Kneipp continues to operate as a key subsidiary within the Hartmann Group, a major international manufacturer of medical and hygiene products. Most Kneipp products, including its skincare and bath lines, are manufactured in Germany, primarily at its state-of-the-art production facility in Ochsenfurt-Hohestadt, near its headquarters in Würzburg.
