Bertolli began its journey in 1865 in Lucca, Tuscany, where Francesco and Caterina Bertolli opened a small grocery store selling high-quality regional olive oil. Over decades, the brand became globally recognized for its Italian heritage and premium oils.
Starting in 2021, the Bertolli brand family was split under different owners. While the olive oil business is owned by the Spanish group Deoleo, the margarine and spreads business (featured here) is owned by Upfield (the former Unilever spreads division). These spreads are produced in various European facilities, with a strong focus on high-quality plant-based ingredients and no palm oil. Upfield continues to market the brand with a focus on its Mediterranean heritage even though the corporate ownership is now centered in the Netherlands.
