Craig & Rose paint

Craig & Rose is one of the UK’s oldest and most prestigious paint manufacturers, established in 1829 by Scottish entrepreneurs James Craig and Hugh Rose. For nearly two centuries, the brand built a reputation for high-quality, artisan finishes, famously supplying the red oxide paint used to protect the Forth Bridge for over 100 years. Originally based in Leith and later moving to Dunfermline, Scotland, the brand became a staple for heritage restorations and luxury home decor.

In 2016, the business was acquired by the DuluxGroup (Australia), which is distinct from the AkzoNobel-owned Dulux brand found in Europe. Following this acquisition, the brand underwent a significant operational shift. In 2024, it was announced that the historic manufacturing plant in Dunfermline would close, with production transitioning to facilities in France to better serve the broader European market while maintaining a distribution hub in Suffolk, UK. Despite these changes in manufacturing location, Craig & Rose continues to emphasize its Scottish heritage and its archives of vintage color recipes.
