Bisolvon 8 mg tablets

Bisolvon is a long-standing pharmaceutical brand specializing in mucolytic treatments to help clear respiratory mucus. The brand was originally developed by the German company Boehringer Ingelheim in the late 1950s, following the discovery of bromhexine as a synthetic derivative of vasicine, an active ingredient from the Adhatoda vasica plant. It was officially introduced to the market in 1963.

In 2017, as part of a major asset swap between Boehringer Ingelheim and the French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi, the Bisolvon brand transitioned to Sanofi's Consumer Healthcare division. As of early 2025, Sanofi has spun off this division into a standalone company called Opella. While Sanofi retains a significant stake, a controlling interest in Opella was acquired by the U.S. private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R).

Manufacturing for the European and Australian markets is frequently centered in France, although the global nature of the brand means production occurs in various regional pharmaceutical hubs to serve local markets.
