Oro Saiwa Classico is an iconic Italian dry biscuit, a staple of the traditional Italian breakfast since its introduction in 1956. The brand's history dates back even further to 1900, starting in a small pastry shop in Genoa founded by Pietro Marchese. The company eventually adopted the name SAIWA, an acronym for Società Accomandita Industria Wafer e Affini, in 1922.
The biscuits are famously marketed with the slogan "impacchettati caldi" (packaged warm), highlighting their fresh aroma and simple recipe. To this day, the product maintains a strong link to its heritage, being produced at the historic Capriata d'Orba facility in the province of Alessandria, Italy, using 100% Italian wheat sourced through sustainable agricultural programs.
Ownership of the brand has transitioned through several major food conglomerates over the decades. After being owned by Nabisco and later the Danone Group, Oro Saiwa became part of the Kraft Foods portfolio. Following the corporate spin-off in 2012, it is now owned by Mondelez International, an American multinational snacks giant headquartered in Chicago. In Italy, the brand is managed under the Mondelez Italia subsidiary.
