Mühlhäuser is a historic German brand with roots dating back to 1908 in the town of Mühlhausen, Thuringia. Originally founded by Hermann Thämert as the 'Herthä Thüringische Pflaumenmus- und Konservenfabrik', the company became iconic for its plum butter (Pflaumenmus), particularly during the GDR era where it reached cult status.
Today, while the traditional plum butter is still produced in Thuringia to maintain its regional authenticity, other fruit spreads like the strawberry jam (Erdbeere) are primarily manufactured at the company's modern production facility in Mönchengladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia. In 2006, the brand was integrated into the Spanish Helios Group (Grupo Helios), which remains the ultimate owner. This partnership allows Mühlhäuser to combine its deep-seated German breakfast traditions with the international reach and resources of a global food leader.
