Pukka Herbs was founded in 2001 by Tim Westwell and Sebastian Pole in Bristol, United Kingdom. The brand was built on the principles of Ayurveda and a commitment to organic, ethically sourced herbal blends. The name 'Pukka' is derived from a Hindi word meaning 'authentic' or 'genuine', reflecting the founders' vision for the company.
In 2017, the brand was acquired by the consumer goods giant Unilever. Following a major restructuring of Unilever's tea business, Pukka was moved under the 'ekaterra' division, which was subsequently sold to the private equity firm CVC Capital Partners in 2022. Today, the brand is part of Lipton Teas and Infusions, the world's largest dedicated tea company. While the brand has global distribution and sources herbs from over 45 countries, its primary blending and development operations have historically been centered in the UK.
