Letona milk

Letona is an iconic Spanish dairy brand with a history dating back to 1925, when it was founded in Barcelona by a group of milk vendors and the industrialist Marc Viader Bas. Originally created to improve the distribution and quality of milk in Catalonia, the brand became the foundation for the invention of Cacaolat, the world's first industrial bottled milkshake, in 1933.

Over the decades, Letona has maintained its reputation for high-quality dairy products, sourcing milk primarily from local farms in Catalonia and Aragon. The brand's manufacturing remains concentrated at the Grupo Cacaolat production facility in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Barcelona.

Ownership of Letona has transitioned through several major corporate hands, including Clesa, Parmalat, and Nueva Rumasa. In 2011, it was rescued by a joint venture between the Damm brewery group and Cobega. In 2021, Damm acquired 100% control, and as of mid-2024, a major strategic partnership was formed where Idilia Foods (the owner of ColaCao) acquired 50% of the Cacaolat group. Today, Letona is jointly owned by Damm and Idilia Foods, operating as part of Spain's leading milkshake and dairy alliance.
