It was founded by Bert Appleroth, a tram conductor who famously created the first jelly crystal batches in his bathtub in Sydney. The brand became a household name in Australia, fueled by creative marketing stunts—such as dropping jelly crystals from a Tiger Moth plane onto beaches—and its legendary 'I like Aeroplane Jelly' jingle, which is one of the longest-running advertising tunes in the country.

Today, the product continues to be manufactured in Australia, maintaining its status as a national favorite. While it originated as a family-owned business under Traders Pty Ltd, the brand was acquired in 1994/1995 by the Australian subsidiary of the global American seasoning giant, McCormick & Company. The lime flavour, packaged in the standard 85g box, remains one of their staple offerings alongside the best-selling strawberry variant.
