Habitant Traditional Minestrone Soup

Habitant is a historic brand deeply rooted in French-Canadian culture, originally founded in 1918 by Philias Morin in Montreal, Quebec. Named after the 'habitants' (the original French settlers of the St. Lawrence River valley), the brand is best known for its traditional pea soup, though it also produces other hearty varieties like minestrone.

For many years, the soup was manufactured in Canada; however, after the Campbell Soup Company acquired the brand in 1989, production was eventually shifted. In 2019, Campbell closed its long-standing Toronto plant and consolidated its canned soup production to facilities in the United States, specifically in locations such as Maxton, North Carolina, and Napoleon, Ohio. Today, while many of its ingredients like peas are still sourced from Canadian farmers, the final product is primarily manufactured in the U.S. for the Canadian market. The brand is currently managed by the Campbell Company of Canada, a subsidiary of the American multinational food company.
