Kartell is a flagship of Italian design, renowned for revolutionizing the use of plastics in home furnishings. Founded in 1949 by chemical engineer Giulio Castelli, the company initially focused on automobile accessories before expanding into household products and furniture in the early 1960s. Under the creative direction of Anna Castelli Ferrieri, Kartell became a symbol of 'Made in Italy,' proving that plastic could be a 'noble' and high-quality material for high-end design.

In 1988, the company entered a new era when it was acquired by Claudio Luti, whose background in fashion (specifically at Versace) brought a fresh aesthetic sensibility to the brand. Luti fostered collaborations with legendary international designers like Philippe Starck, Ron Arad, and Patricia Urquiola, leading to iconic products such as the transparent 'Louis Ghost' chair. Today, Kartell remains committed to industrial production while increasingly focusing on sustainable and recyclable high-performance materials.

The brand maintains its core identity through strictly Italian manufacturing. Most of its production takes place at its historic headquarters and facilities in Noviglio, near Milan. Ownership remains private through the holding company Felofin, ensuring that Kartell continues to operate as an independent icon of contemporary design.
