Chemist Warehouse is Australia's largest discount pharmacy retailer, established in 2000 by founders Jack Gance and Mario Verrocchi. The brand began as a single store in Melbourne and rapidly grew into a dominant market force known for its high-volume, low-cost retail model. It provides a wide range of pharmaceutical products, cosmetics, health supplements, and personal care items.
Historically a private entity owned by the Gance and Verrocchi families, Chemist Warehouse underwent a significant corporate transformation in early 2025. It completed a major merger with Sigma Healthcare, a leading Australian pharmaceutical wholesaler. This strategic 'backdoor listing' allowed Chemist Warehouse to become part of a publicly traded entity on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), effectively making Sigma Healthcare the ultimate parent company.
While Chemist Warehouse operates as a retail and franchise network rather than a manufacturer, the products found on its shelves are sourced from thousands of global suppliers. The company also manages several private label brands whose manufacturing occurs in multiple countries, including Australia, New Zealand, and various locations across Asia and Europe.
