Morton Salt is an iconic American brand with a legacy dating back to 1848, originally established in Chicago as Richmond & Company. The brand is famously recognized for its 'Umbrella Girl' logo and the slogan 'When It Rains, It Pours,' which highlighted its free-flowing salt properties.

Ownership of the brand has transitioned through several major corporations. In 2021, the German company K+S sold its Americas salt business, including Morton Salt, to Stone Canyon Industries Holdings LLC (SCIH) for approximately $3.2 billion. This acquisition integrated Morton Salt into SCIH's Kissner Group Holdings, effectively creating a leading North American salt supplier. As of 2024, the company officially moved its headquarters from Chicago to Overland Park, Kansas.

Manufacturing primarily takes place across North America, utilizing solar evaporation facilities such as those at the Great Salt Lake in Utah and Inagua in the Bahamas. While the brand emphasizes its American heritage and domestic production for its salt and seasoning blends, it may source certain materials or specialty ingredients from foreign suppliers to meet production standards.
