Signal is a leading oral hygiene brand with a long-standing history in the European market. Originally launched in 1961 by the French company Gibbs (Société de Recherche et d’Études de Marché), it was notably the first toothpaste to feature red stripes. The brand was quickly integrated into the portfolio of Unilever, the British multinational consumer goods company.
Today, Signal operates as a global brand under several names depending on the region, such as Pepsodent or Mentadent. For the Western European market, particularly in France, much of the production takes place locally at facilities like the factory in Le Meux, France, though global supply chains mean production can occur in multiple international locations. The brand remains a core component of Unilever's personal care division, benefiting from the conglomerate's immense global distribution and research infrastructure.
