ECCO is a world-renowned Danish footwear and leather goods brand founded in 1963 by Karl Toosbuy in Bredebro, Denmark. The company is unique in the footwear industry because it maintains full control over its entire supply chain, a philosophy often described as "from cow to consumer." This integrated approach means that ECCO owns and operates its own tanneries and manufacturing facilities, ensuring high standards of quality and sustainability across its product lines.

While the brand's heart and global headquarters remain in Denmark, its manufacturing footprint is truly global. ECCO produces approximately 98% of its footwear in its own factories located in Portugal, Slovakia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and China. Additionally, some products are manufactured under license in India. The company also operates tanneries in the Netherlands, China, Thailand, and Indonesia, supplying leather not only for its own shoes but also to other luxury fashion and automotive brands.

ECCO remains a private, family-owned enterprise. Following the passing of its founder, the company passed to his daughter, Hanni Toosbuy Kasprzak, and her children. This independence has allowed ECCO to focus on long-term innovation, such as its signature Direct Injection Technology, which creates a seamless bond between the sole and the upper for superior comfort and durability.
