Tate & Lyle sugar

Tate & Lyle is an iconic British sugar brand with a heritage dating back to the late 19th century. The brand was formed through the 1921 merger of two rival sugar refiners: Henry Tate & Sons and Abram Lyle & Sons. Henry Tate was famous for his sugar cubes, while Abram Lyle was renowned for creating his celebrated Golden Syrup. For decades, the brand was synonymous with the UK's domestic sugar production and its historic refinery at Silvertown in East London.

In 2010, the company's sugar refining business was sold to the American firm American Sugar Refining (ASR Group). Today, while the name 'Tate & Lyle' remains on the packaging and the refining operations continue at the historic Thames Refinery in London, the brand is owned and operated by a Florida-based conglomerate. This transition marked a major shift from British ownership to becoming part of one of the largest sugar refining groups in the world.
