MG Motors

MG Motor is a historic automotive brand that traces its origins back to 1924 in Oxford, United Kingdom, where it was founded as Morris Garages by Cecil Kimber. Originally famous for its sporty two-seater roadsters and racing achievements, the brand underwent several ownership changes throughout the 20th century, passing through companies like British Leyland and the MG Rover Group.

Following the collapse of MG Rover in 2005, the brand was acquired by Nanjing Automobile Group, which subsequently merged with SAIC Motor in 2007. Since then, SAIC Motor, a Chinese state-owned Fortune 500 company, has revitalized the brand, transitioning it from a niche sports car maker to a global volume manufacturer specializing in tech-forward SUVs and electric vehicles.

While the brand maintains a design and engineering presence in the UK, its primary manufacturing operations are centered in China. To support regional markets, production also takes place in several other countries including Thailand, India (at the Halol plant in Gujarat), Indonesia, and Taiwan. In India, the brand operates through a joint venture between SAIC Motor and the JSW Group, known as JSW MG Motor India.
