McVitie's Digestives are a quintessential British biscuit with a history dating back to the 19th century. Originally developed in Scotland in 1892 by Alexander Grant, an employee of McVitie & Price, the digestive biscuit was named for the belief that its high sodium bicarbonate content aided digestion. The chocolate-covered variant, seen in the image, was first introduced in 1925 and has since become one of the most popular snacks in the United Kingdom and internationally.

Today, McVitie's is part of the United Biscuits portfolio, which was acquired by the Turkish conglomerate Yıldız Holding in 2014. The brand now operates under Pladis, a global snacking company headquartered in London that combines the heritage of brands like McVitie's, Godiva, and Ülker. While the products are sold globally, including in the Netherlands as evidenced by the Dutch labeling ('Melkchocolade'), they are primarily manufactured in the United Kingdom, specifically at the large-scale Harlesden factory in London.
