Morrisons, formally known as Wm Morrison Supermarkets Limited, is a quintessentially British retail institution founded in 1899 by William Morrison. Starting as a modest egg and butter stall in Rawson Market, Bradford, the brand has evolved into one of the 'Big Four' supermarket chains in the United Kingdom. It is uniquely distinguished in the British retail landscape for its high level of vertical integration; unlike many competitors, Morrisons owns and operates a significant portion of its supply chain, including 18 manufacturing sites across the UK that process meat, seafood, fruit, vegetables, and bakery items.

While its fresh produce and meats are primarily sourced and processed within the United Kingdom—boasting a 100% British fresh meat commitment—non-perishable goods and general merchandise like its 'Nutmeg' clothing line are manufactured globally. The brand underwent a significant corporate transformation in October 2021 when it was acquired and taken private by the American private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R). As of 2026, Morrisons continues to operate under this ownership, maintaining its headquarters in Bradford, West Yorkshire, while expanding its reach through the 'Morrisons Daily' convenience store network.
