AEG Olympia Traveller de Luxe typewriter

The AEG Olympia Traveller de Luxe is a classic example of late 20th-century portable engineering. Originally designed in 1969 by Alfons Boothby and Georges Joseph for Olympia Werke in Wilhelmshaven, West Germany, this model was part of a strategic effort to provide high-quality, lightweight writing tools for journalists and students.

While the brand is deeply rooted in German industrial history, many 'Traveller de Luxe' units were manufactured in Yugoslavia through a cooperation with the UNIS factory in Sarajevo to optimize production costs during the 1970s and 1980s. The Olympia company itself was a subsidiary of the German giant AEG (Allgemeine Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft) for decades.

Following the decline of the typewriter industry, the original Olympia-Werke ceased production in 1992. Today, the trademark rights are held by GO Europe GmbH, a company formed by the merger of Olympia Business Systems and Genie GmbH. While the vintage machines are no longer in production, the brand name persists in the office supply and security technology sectors.
