Seventeen is a legendary American media brand originally launched in September 1944 as a print magazine by Walter Annenberg’s Triangle Publications. It was the first publication of its kind to target teenage girls as a distinct consumer demographic, pioneered by its first editor-in-chief Helen Valentine. For decades, it served as the primary authority on teen fashion, beauty, and lifestyle in the United States and expanded into numerous international editions.
In 2003, the brand was acquired by Hearst Magazines, a division of the Hearst Corporation. Following the general shift in media consumption, Hearst transitioned Seventeen to a 'digital-first' strategy in late 2018, ceasing regular bimonthly print publication in favor of a robust online presence at seventeen.com and occasional special-interest print issues. Today, the brand continues to operate as a digital hub for Gen Z readers, providing content on social issues, celebrity news, and personal wellness while remaining under the ownership of the New York-based Hearst Corporation.
