Nairn's is a historic Scottish bakery brand with a legacy dating back to 1896, when John and Sarah Nairn first opened their bakery in Strathaven, Lanarkshire. The brand has evolved from a local family business into the UK’s largest producer of oatcakes and a leading international player in the gluten-free market.
All Nairn's products are manufactured in Scotland. The company operates two dedicated bakeries in Edinburgh and a specialized gluten-free facility in Newtongrange, Midlothian. By maintaining dedicated gluten-free production sites, they ensure their products meet strict safety standards for coeliacs and those with gluten sensitivities.
Ownership of the brand has changed hands over the decades; it was previously owned by United Biscuits before being purchased in 1996 by a management team led by Mark Laing. Today, Nairn's remains a proudly independent, privately-owned company under the parent entity Peffermill Holdings Ltd. As of 2026, the company continues to operate from its Edinburgh headquarters, exporting its range of wholesome, oat-based snacks to over 30 countries worldwide.
