SodaStream is a pioneer in the home carbonation industry, originally founded in 1903 in England by Guy Hugh Gilbey, a partner in the London-based gin distillers W & A Gilbey. The brand initially catered to the upper class and royal families before evolving into a global consumer brand. In the late 20th century, the brand's ownership shifted significantly when it was acquired by the Israeli distributor Soda-Club in 1998, which revitalized the brand with a focus on health and environmental sustainability.

Today, SodaStream is a subsidiary of the American multinational corporation PepsiCo, which acquired the company in 2018 for approximately $3.2 billion. This acquisition was part of PepsiCo's strategic shift toward healthier beverage options and reducing single-use plastic waste. The brand's headquarters remain in Kfar Saba, Israel, and it continues to operate as an independent unit within PepsiCo.

Manufacturing for SodaStream is concentrated in several key locations. The primary manufacturing campus is located in the Idan HaNegev Industrial Park in southern Israel. To better serve its large European market and reduce its carbon footprint, the company opened a significant production and logistics facility in Tilburg, Netherlands, in 2021. Additional manufacturing and carbon dioxide cylinder filling operations are also conducted in Germany, ensuring a robust global supply chain for its sparkling water makers and flavor concentrates.
