Innocent Drinks was founded in 1999 by three friends, Richard Reed, Adam Balon, and Jon Wright, after they tested their smoothie concept at a London music festival using bins to ask customers if they should quit their jobs. The brand quickly became a leader in the UK and European smoothie markets, known for its focus on 100% fruit and vegetable ingredients, ethical sourcing, and playful branding.

In recent years, the company has significantly centralized its production by building an all-electric, sustainable factory in Rotterdam, Netherlands, known as 'The Blender.' This facility is designed to reduce the carbon footprint of their supply chain by locating production closer to major shipping ports. While the brand maintains deep roots and some specialized production in the UK, the majority of its European manufacturing now happens at this Dutch site.

In terms of ownership, Innocent underwent a phased acquisition by The Coca-Cola Company. Coca-Cola initially purchased a minority stake in 2009, which gradually increased until they took full ownership in 2013. Despite being a subsidiary of a global giant, Innocent operates with a high degree of independence from its headquarters in 'Fruit Towers' in London and continues its commitment to donating 10% of profits to charity.
