Founded in 1928 in Hamburg, Germany, rOtring (originally Tintenkuli Handels GmbH) is a world-renowned brand synonymous with technical precision. The brand name, which translates to 'Red Ring,' reflects the iconic red band found on all its instruments. While the brand was born from German engineering and the Bauhaus design philosophy, its manufacturing landscape shifted significantly following its acquisition by the American conglomerate Newell Brands in 1998.
Today, rOtring mechanical pencils—particularly the celebrated 600 and 800 series—are primarily manufactured in Japan, a country known for its own high standards in stationery production. While the headquarters in Hamburg were eventually closed, the brand continues to operate as a premium subsidiary under Newell Brands' portfolio, maintaining its reputation as a professional tool for architects, engineers, and artists worldwide.
