Ferrosan is a historic Danish brand with roots dating back to 1920 when it was founded by Herman Weitzmann in Copenhagen. Originally focused on iron supplements—the name itself means 'healthy iron' in Danish—the company evolved into a major player in both consumer health and medical technology.

In 2011, the consumer health division, known for brands like Multi-tabs and Imedeen, was acquired by Pfizer. However, the medical device division, Ferrosan Medical Devices (FeMD), remained a distinct entity specializing in haemostatic products (used to stop bleeding during surgery) and biopsy equipment.

Today, Ferrosan Medical Devices is owned by a consortium of prominent Danish institutional investors, including Kirk Kapital (40%), the Lundbeck Foundation (30%), and ATP (30%). Manufacturing takes place across two primary locations: the company headquarters in Søborg, Denmark, and a large production facility in Szczecin, Poland. Their surgical products are marketed globally through a long-standing partnership with Ethicon, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson.
