Beats by Dr. Dre was founded in 2006 by music producer Dr. Dre and record executive Jimmy Iovine. The brand quickly became a cultural phenomenon, known for its bass-heavy sound profiles and celebrity-endorsed aesthetic. Originally, the brand partnered with Monster Cable for manufacturing and distribution before bringing operations in-house and eventually becoming a major player in the premium headphone market.

In 2014, Apple Inc. acquired Beats Electronics for $3 billion, marking the largest acquisition in Apple's history. This move integrated Beats' hardware and its budding streaming service into the Apple ecosystem. Today, while Beats maintains its distinct branding and compatibility with both Android and iOS devices, its technology is deeply integrated with Apple's proprietary silicon and software features.

Manufacturing for Beats products is primarily centered in China, following the broader supply chain model of its parent company, Apple. While the engineering and design take place at Apple’s headquarters in California, the mass production is handled by various contract manufacturers across Asia to meet global demand.
