Green & Black's is a pioneering British chocolate brand founded in London in 1991 by organic food advocate Craig Sams and journalist Josephine Fairley. The name was chosen to symbolize their dual commitment to environmental sustainability (Green) and high-cocoa dark chocolate (Black). In 1994, the brand gained international recognition for launching Maya Gold, the United Kingdom's first product to carry the Fairtrade mark, sourced from Maya farmers in Belize.
In 2005, the brand was acquired by the major confectionery company Cadbury Schweppes. Following the subsequent acquisition of Cadbury by Kraft Foods and the later spin-off of its global snacks business, Green & Black's is now a subsidiary of Mondelēz International. While its heritage and head offices remain in London, manufacturing is distributed globally to meet demand, with major production facilities located in Poland, Italy, and Canada, using organic cocoa sourced primarily from Madagascar, the Dominican Republic, and Belize.
