Proper Chips, a line of lentil-based snacks, was born out of the British brand Proper (formerly known as Propercorn). The brand was founded in 2011 by Cassandra Stavrou and Ryan Kohn in London, originally starting with popcorn flavored in a refashioned cement mixer. Seeking to provide a healthier alternative to traditional fried snacks, they expanded into lentil chips in 2019 under the Properchips sub-brand.
The manufacturing process is primarily based in the United Kingdom, specifically at a state-of-the-art facility in Nuneaton. This factory serves as the production hub for both Proper and its sister brand, Eat Real. The brand has achieved B Corp certification, reflecting its commitment to social and environmental standards, and aims for carbon net-zero status by 2030.
In terms of ownership, the brand underwent a significant transition in 2021 when the investment firm Exponent Private Equity acquired a majority stake. This move brought Proper and Eat Real together under a single umbrella, originally called Warp Snacks and later rebranded as Proper Snacks. As of 2026, the brand remains a dominant force in the healthy snacking market under the stewardship of Exponent Private Equity.
