Desperados is a globally recognized tequila-flavored beer that uniquely blends the crispness of a pale lager with agave spirit notes. Despite its vibrant Latin-inspired branding, the product actually has European roots. It was first conceived in 1995 by the Fischer Brewery (Brasserie Fischer) in Strasbourg, France. The brand quickly gained popularity for its bold, experimental profile, targeting a youthful nightlife demographic.
Shortly after its successful launch, the brand was acquired in 1996 by the Dutch brewing giant Heineken N.V. Since then, production has expanded from its original French home to several of Heineken’s global facilities to meet international demand. Today, the beer is brewed in multiple locations, including France, the Netherlands (Zoeterwoude), and Slovakia (Hurbanovo). As of 2026, the brand continues to operate as a core part of Heineken's specialty portfolio, positioning itself at the intersection of beer and cocktail culture through innovative platforms like 'La Fábrica'.
