MyFitnessPal is a premier health and fitness digital platform, designed to help individuals track their diet and exercise. Originally launched in 2005, it has grown into one of the most widely used health apps globally, offering a comprehensive database of nutritional information and tools for calorie counting and activity tracking.
The brand was founded in San Francisco, California, by Mike Lee and Albert Lee. Its growth caught the attention of major corporations, leading to a significant acquisition by the athletic apparel giant Under Armour in 2015 for $475 million. Under Armour integrated the app into its 'Connected Fitness' division for several years before deciding to sell the platform.
In late 2020, Under Armour finalized the sale of MyFitnessPal to the global investment firm Francisco Partners for $345 million. Today, MyFitnessPal operates as an independent entity under the ownership of Francisco Partners, continuing to innovate within the digital health space from its headquarters in the United States.
