Brandt Zwieback

Brandt Zwieback is one of Germany's most iconic food products, specializing in 'Zwieback' (rusk), a crispy, twice-baked bread. The brand was established on October 12, 1912, by master baker Carl Brandt in Hagen, Germany. His vision was to create a nutritious and easily digestible food that was specifically suitable for children and babies. Over more than a century, the company transformed from a local bakery into a market leader with a production output of millions of rusks per day.

Historically manufactured in Hagen, the main production facility was relocated in 2003 to Ohrdruf, Thuringia, which is now considered one of the most modern rusk production sites in Europe. Despite its international reach and growth into other categories like chocolate and crispbread, Brandt has remained an independent family-owned business. Following the death of Carl-Jürgen Brandt in 2018, the third generation of the family, Carl-Heinz and Christoph Brandt, took over the management, ensuring the brand maintains its traditional baking heritage and family ownership into 2026 and beyond.
