Hellmann's is one of the world's most iconic condiment brands, originally founded in New York City by Richard Hellmann. In 1913, Richard opened a delicatessen and began selling his wife's signature mayonnaise recipe in jars. The blue ribbon that remains a central part of the brand's logo today was originally used to mark the best quality recipes produced in the shop. The brand quickly grew in popularity across the United States and expanded globally over the following century.

Today, Hellmann's (known as Best Foods in certain regions like the Western United States) is produced in numerous countries to serve local markets, often utilizing locally sourced ingredients such as Canadian canola oil or European free-range eggs. The brand has transitioned from a family-run deli business to a global household name under the stewardship of multinational conglomerates.

Since 2000, Hellmann’s has been owned by Unilever, a British multinational consumer goods company. Unilever manages the brand's global distribution and has increasingly focused on sustainable sourcing, particularly regarding the use of 100% cage-free eggs and sustainably sourced oils, ensuring the legacy of the original New York recipe continues at a global scale.
