Milkana Sahne

Milkana is a prominent German cheese brand specializing in processed cheese products. It was first launched in 1952 in the Allgäu region of the German Alps, specifically produced by the Edelweiss dairy in Kempten. The brand is particularly famous for its 'Sahne' (cream) variety, which has been a staple in German households for decades and is noted for being produced with milk primarily sourced from the Allgäu region.

The history of Milkana's ownership is closely tied to the Edelweiss-Milchwerke. In 1962, the company was acquired by Unilever (specifically its German subsidiary Union Deutsche Lebensmittelwerke). However, in 2003, ownership shifted when the French dairy group Savencia Fromage & Dairy (then known as Bongrain SA) acquired the Edelweiss business and the Milkana brand from Unilever. Today, Milkana remains a key part of the Savencia portfolio, maintaining its local production heritage in Bavaria while being distributed internationally.
