The story of Titleist began in 1932 when Philip E. Young, a dedicated amateur golfer and owner of a precision molded rubber company, missed a crucial putt. Convinced the ball was at fault, he had his dentist friend X-ray it, discovering the rubber core was off-center. This revelation led Young to found the Acushnet Golf Division, with the first Titleist golf ball hitting the market in 1935. To this day, the brand maintains its commitment to quality by X-raying every single golf ball it produces.

Today, Titleist is recognized as a global leader in golf performance, famous for its Pro V1 and Pro V1x ball series, which are consistently the most played balls on professional tours worldwide. Beyond balls, Titleist has expanded into premium golf clubs, bags, and accessories, maintaining a philosophy of high-performance engineering tailored for serious golfers.

While originally an American company, Titleist underwent a major ownership shift in 2011 when its parent company, Acushnet, was acquired by a consortium led by Fila Holdings Corp. (formerly Fila Korea). Manufacturing is now a global operation; golf balls are primarily produced in state-of-the-art facilities in Massachusetts and Thailand, while golf clubs are designed and tested in California and assembled in various regional hubs including the U.S., Japan, and the U.K. to serve international markets.
