La Roche-Posay is a globally recognized dermocosmetic brand that traces its heritage to the small French village of the same name. The brand's history is deeply connected to a local thermal spring, which was designated a thermal spa of public benefit as far back as 1617 and later officially recognized by the French Academy of Medicine. In 1905, the first Thermal Centre was opened to treat skin disorders using the spring's uniquely selenium-rich water.

The commercial brand, Laboratoire Dermatologique La Roche-Posay, was founded in 1975 by pharmacist René Levayer with the goal of developing minimalist, high-efficacy skincare for sensitive skin. The brand was acquired by the L'Oréal Group in 1989, which accelerated its global distribution and research capabilities. Today, it is a flagship of L'Oréal’s Dermatological Beauty division.

Most authentic La Roche-Posay products continue to be manufactured at dedicated facilities in France, specifically utilizing the regional thermal spring water. However, as part of L'Oréal's vast global supply chain, some products or components may be produced in other L'Oréal manufacturing hubs around the world to meet international demand.
