Löwensenf is one of Germany's most iconic mustard brands, particularly famous for its 'Extra Scharf' (Extra Hot) variety. The brand's history dates back to 1903 when Otto and Frieda Löwenthal founded a mustard factory in Metz. Following World War I, the company relocated to Düsseldorf, where it established its reputation as a leader in premium mustard production. The distinctive flavor profile of their mustard is achieved through a traditional 'Dijon process' combined with carefully selected brown mustard seeds.
In 2001, the family-owned company merged with the mustard producer Develey, an international powerhouse in the condiment industry. Today, Löwensenf remains primarily produced in Germany, maintaining its historical connection to Düsseldorf. While the brand is managed under the umbrella of the Develey group, it has preserved its unique branding and recipe legacy for over a century.
