Ritter Sport is an iconic German brand of chocolate from the family-owned Alfred Ritter GmbH & Co. KG. The brand's history began in 1912 when Alfred Ritter and his wife Clara founded a chocolate factory in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt. The company later moved to Waldenbuch in 1930, which remains its headquarters and primary manufacturing site today.

The famous square shape was invented by Clara Ritter in 1932. She proposed making a chocolate bar that would fit into every sport jacket pocket without breaking and have the same weight as a normal long bar. This led to the creation of the 'Ritter’s Sport Chocolate' brand. To this day, the company remains independent and family-owned, known for its wide variety of flavors and its commitment to 100% certified sustainable cocoa sourcing, as highlighted on the packaging.
